Analysis of a film poster: Knocked up

What genre is the film? Comedy

Which genre conventions are referred for? The man in knocked up looks abit out of place because its a good looking girl and a not so good looking man, its a rom-com comedy and the couple are in a everyday situation

Describe mise-en-scene in detail including location,lighting,costume,make-up.
There is bright lighting so you can tell the film isnt going to be scary, the couple are sat in a room both looking worried so you know there is something wrong, and the couple are both wearing everyday clothes, also the title resembles something so it shows it is going to have quite alot of comedy in it.

What symbols are used in the poster? Do you need a audience foreknowledge to decode the symbols? Symbols in the film are that they both look nervous and they are in a waiting room with a picture of a pregnant lady's stomach with a diagram of the baby inside it so it shows that the lady in the picture is pregnant, also it shows that they aren't very wealthy by the way they are dressed and the way they look

What are the main figures/objects/background of the poster? Are they represented photographically?
The main figures in the picture are that its looks like a normal picture of a couple in a waiting room, its really natural and not set up.

How does the layout of the poster effect its message?
The layout of the text is a pun that suggests what the film is about also the way they are sat in a waiting room straight faced not making eye contact suggests that there is something wrong.

Describe why the designer has used the particular typeface.
They have used this particular typeface because its bold, simple and clear and it catches your attention straight away, its the first thing you look at.

What visual camera techniques have been used?
They have used a natural shot which shows some of the background and they have eye contact with the characters.

Are the messages in the poster primarily visual, verbal, or both?
The film is more visual than verbal even thought the text does take up a large amount of the poster.

Who do you think is the intended audience for the poster? Why?
